　作为我国最大的木薯生产地，广西正致力于发展以木薯为代表的1.5代非粮生物乙醇和第2代纤维素乙醇炼制产业，全区近500万亩木薯田将变成“绿色油田”。
　广西是我国最大的木薯基地，种植面积和产量连续10年居全国之首。目前，广西木薯种植面积近500万亩，产量超过700万吨，两项均占全国的70%以上。
　广西壮族自治区科技厅副厅长纳翔介绍，经过多年努力，广西在以木薯和甘蔗为主的生物能源研究、工艺开发、生产和销售，包括企业、科研院所、栽培种植方面，获得了一系列成果。
　为支持以木薯为主的生物质能源产业发展，广西将优先支持生物技术创新项目纳入科技计划项目，加大对生物质能源产业科技创新人才的培养和团队建设。今年初，以广西科学院为技术支撑的“生物质能源酶解技术企业国家重点实验室”获科技部批准，实验室将以酶解核心技术为突破口，促进生物质的高效转化，推动生物燃料乙醇、生物柴油技术发展，破解纤维素、半纤维素燃料技术难题，降低生物质能源生产成本，实现广西生物质能源产业技术根本性突破。
　经过几年发展，广西已经形成较为成熟的木薯加工产业群，全区有以广西中粮集团生物质能源有限公司、广西明阳生化开发有限公司等为产业龙头的木薯淀粉加工企业150多家，淀粉产量约54万吨，木薯酒精加工企业20多家，年产量达60万吨。
